About Us

The Moultrie County Historical & Genealogical Society was established in 1973 as an incorporated nonprofit organization.  The purpose of the Society is to bring together people of all ages interested in history and genealogy of Moultrie County and central Illinois.  We as members discover, collect, and preserve material which may help establish or illustrate the history of the area and its people who contributed in any way in establishing Moultrie County.  We accomplish this by cataloging and preserving material for the accessibility to those who wish to examine or study our County and surrounding areas.  The Society works towards maintaining the Moultrie County Library and Museum for the present public and future generations.

Our Location:

We are located at 1303 South Hamilton Street, Sullivan.  Come on in to learn more about the history of Moultrie County or give us a call.  We would be happy to show you around!  It is important to know our history and where we come from.  Everyone is welcome, no membership necessary to attend our meetings and programs.  The museum is under construction.  The library is open for business!  Our phone number is 217-728-4085.
